Our Approach
The Utopian Projects ultimate goal is to improve New York City by making it more equitable and livable for lower class residents. It is our goal to create a utopian city through completing our projects. (You can see our projects in our goals section)
New York City has a plague of issues its dealing with on a day to day basis. From homelessness, horrible living conditions in public housing, poverty, health disparities, issues with curbing dangerous drug use, and more.
Here a the Utopia Project we have constructed a more human approach to solving these issues quickly and effectively. So to see how much our approach differs from traditional action plans to solve these issues we have a chart to help.
OUR Approach to solving homelessness
1) Outreach
At any moment in time our workers are circumventing NYC, looking for people in need. Once one of our staff identifies a homeless individual, they will communicate to them firstly if they're in direct need of anything ranging from medical attention to food. From there they will asses what's the best next step they can take to assist the individual. If the individual wants no assistance in regards to finding shelter, our staff will simply provide a "care package" crafted by our team for the individual to have until they are ready to become a guest at the Utopia Project.
2) Joining and the First day
If the homeless individual agrees to join, then we will first invite them to our main campus.
Here we will
First check the guest in
Obtain and store any valuables they have
Escort them to one of our rooms
Any soiled, or dirty laundry they have will be obtained and sent to our laundry unit, the guest will then be provided clean linens, and toiletries for them to bathe and cleanse themselves with before they are given a meal, and be sent to rest or enjoy the campus grounds.
2) Day 2 Building The Structure
In the morning , the guest will be
Given breakfast
Assigned a case worker. The case worker will work with the guest in determining needs, Weather they are access to specific medical or mental health resources. The case worker will also provide job acquiring training.
Does the guest have health insurance?
Does the guest have employment?
What is the guests work history, education, background?
Does the guest have any family, someone they can stay with long term?
The case worker will then work with the information given to assist in creating a pathway to employment and then as time goes on, securing a permeant place of residence for the guest.
3) Day 3 and forward
After the case worker builds the structure for the guest, the guest will then be sent to meet with the case worker for an hour minimum each day to discus progress. If the guest has a potential employment opportunity coming up, the guest will be given access to a wide range of the TheUtopiaProjects facilities, including access to business casual wear and hair styling.
